Plakfestijn

De reden van dit plakfestijn? De overwinning van Sebastian Vettel in de Formule 1 natuurlijk. Deze gebeurtenis wil Nissan opnieuw niet aan zich voorbij laten gaan en komt daarom exclusief voor Engeland met deze bijzondere wrap. Er worden slechts 10 stuks geproduceerd. Mensen die hun FX laten wrappen, krijgen tevens een rondleiding in het hoofdkwartier van Red Bull Racing.

Eyecatcher

Eigenlijk is het veel leuker dat de bijzondere Infiniti FX Sebastian Vettel in productie gaat. Deze is naast de buitenzijde ook aan de onderkant aangepakt. Met liefst 400 pk en een top van 300 km/h zal het zeker een eyecatcher worden. Het is nog niet bekend wanneer het model van de band zal rollen.

Russische wodka + Infiniti FX35 = Waterfail

Altijd al gedacht om met je bak te gaan pronken op het strand? Dat moet de bestuurder van dit filmpje ook gedacht hebben, al zal hij niet hebben ingecalculeerd hem daar uiteindelijk achter te laten.

Deze, schijnbaar dronken, eigenaar van de zwarte Infiniti FX35 weet de rust op het strand goed te verstoren door met zijn Japanse bak het water in te rijden. Dit ging hem nog vrij aardig af tot hij bij zijn 3e poging hem definitief liet zinken.

Na het zien van deze video zal je dus wel 2 keer denken voordat je de auto verandert in een amfibievoertuig.

Bevroren Audi A3

Honey I Froze the car

Het is het verhaal van de New Yorker Peter Helfer. Nadat Peter Helfer zijn thuisclub de New York Jets op zondag had zien verliezen in een kwalificatiepartij om de Superbowl nam Peter met zijn vrouw een taxi naar zijn appartement op 2nd street. Bij thuiskomst (23:30) besloot Peter zijn eigen auto naar een andere parkeerplaats te verzetten. Eenmaal aangekomen trof hij zijn Audi A3 Sportback onder een 15 tot 30 cm dikke laag ijs aan. Zijn Audi A3 was een kunstwerk van moeder natuur geworden.

Van bevroren A3 naar gloednieuwe G37X

De A3 stond geparkeerd boven een vastgelopen afvoerput en naast een diepe plas regenwater. Voorbijgaande auto’s bezorgende de Audi A3 keer op keer een koude douche die vervolgens vastvroor op de al bestaande laag ijs. Peter’s auto had het hele weekend stilgestaan waardoor vele voorbijgangers de auto al gespot hadden voordat Peter ook maar ergens van wist. De media pakte het bericht al gauw op. De dag nadat Peter zijn Audi ijskunstwerk aantrof stonden er verschillende media teams het tafereel aandachtig bij te wonen.

Hoe Peter aan zijn bevroren Audi A3 een gloednieuwe Infiniti G37X over hield lees je in zijn verhaal hieronder:

When we got to the car, we managed to open the driver side door which didn’t have much ice on it, climbed into the car and warmed it up for 45 minutes, but not a piece of ice was moving. And that’s when I knew it was going to be a much longer and more painful Monday than expected.  When I woke up on Monday, it was 4 degrees outside and there was no shot that the car was going to be my transportation to work that day.

I didn’t want to leave the car there as is — afraid it would be towed, possibly damaged by any of the emergency crews that were fixing the street, or sitting there with NYC parking tickets on it.  As I stepped out of my apartment building, not only did I see a closed road with DEP workers checking out the main break, there were news trucks camped out waiting for the owner of the car to arrive.

I can’t come to work boss

At that point I called my boss and said I wasn’t going to make it in, which was an excuse that did not sit well (he obviously assumed I was out late watching the Jets game) until he saw the photos of my revised to-do list for the day.  Now the emergency crews were out in full effect, the area with my car and the main break was sectioned off, and the the questions started coming my way:

The most annoying/entertaining questions and suggestions:

 - Oh man, is that your car>?
- What are you going to do about this?
- Do you have a bunch of salt you can put on it?
- How are you going to get it out?
- You better be suing the city
- You know what you need? Those large chlorine tablets that melt snow. Have a friend get you some from Home Depot.
- Why did you leave your car in a puddle?
- Why did you break your window?

The next day

This day started at 9:00 am and did not end until 4:45 pm when I decided it was time to attempt to drive the car out of the ice and it would never have happened without a ton of help from the DEP workers who “needed to get the ice off the street to do their work.” They also helped me steam some of the ice off the tires, lent me a pry bar to chop the ice away from the street, and then as I got tired, would make small stress fractures in the ice with a hammer so that the big sheets of the ice would fall to the ground.

When it looked like it was time for me to drive away, all of the workers, tons of people on the street, and some media who had been hanging around all day cheered me on….and the car made it out!

I pulled away from the chaos, chipped some more ice off the car so I could see while driving, and brought it straight up to the dealership to thaw out and be fixed.

Geluk na ongeluk

After 10 days and $7,500 of parts/labor, the car was ready to be picked up on Friday, Feb 11th, but the day before I picked up the car, I received a surprise call from Joe Valentino and David Fine of Infiniti of Manhasset.  They saw all the coverage of the frozen car and decided that they would offer me a brand new car for all the trouble I had been through.  I was upgraded to an all-wheel drive Infiniti G37x, which should never leave me stuck in ice again.
